For the third week in a row, the media has reaffirmed Senator Edwards as the strongest candidate in a press conference. While participating in the “Focus the Nation” global warming press conference, various print and broadcast media outlets peppered Senator Edwards with questions about the Kyoto protocol, as well as his stance on nuclear energy. Senator Edwards confidently responded about his desires to draft a new international protocol to replace Kyoto because of the exclusion of developing nations from the current treaty, as well as the absence of China, India and the U.S. Regarding his stance on nuclear energy, Senator Edwards articulated the need for a greater investment in alternative energy sources – such as E85 (ethanol), wind, solar and biofuel – while citing statistics and case studies from Brazil and France to reaffirm his objectives.
Noted on today’s New York Times blog, journalist Jamie Puccetti referred to Edwards performance at the conference by stating, “Edwards shined; he does that, taking no prisoners and completely destroying the other Dems.” In addition, while other candidates provided statistics and figures without references, or avoided questioning altogether, Senator Edwards again came across as more than knowledgable in the issues of global warming and dedicated to his environmental convictions.
